About Me

How do you get there from here? I've asked myself that many times...

Well, I got my start as a snot nosed little brat, running around the family businesses, the oldest of four siblings. We had restaurants, bars, antiques, sporting goods, and even a gun shop... we lived on the lake for about half the year, and "in town" the rest of the time. I learned my first skills in the restaurants and developed a work ethic, along with the chance to grow up outdoors hunting, fishing, camping, and the like.
The end of High School saw me off to the Marine Corps, as a Combat Engineer. Along the way, I found some time for college, and when I returned home it took me awhile to find my way. Shooting came naturally to me considering my upbringing and military background, and I discovered I enjoyed competition. I found a career in New York State Department of Corrections, eventually becoming the Captain of the department shooting team, and a weapons instructor/trainer.I enjoyed a 16 year career as a full time competitor representing the department and several popular manufacturers, while continuing to work full time for DOCS. I earned Armorer certifications for most all common manufacturers, along with several hundred hours of apprenticeship in Gunsmithing, and even designed the "Foley" grip manufactured by Hogue Grips in California. After calling it quits in full time competition, I came home to be with my family which was growing rapidly. My love of cooking returned when I discovered how much spare time I had when not dealing with gun tech on a daily basis. I started up the Adirondack Outdoor Cookery ( now a part of Adirondack Events Group )  in 2007. The business has been quite successful, and gained a loyal following in the north east region of New York.
My plan now is to share what we've learned here on our site, and to bring our followers a regular dose of what we used to call the "essentials' in the Marine Corps... Beans, Bullets, and Band-Aids. We'll be blogging here on anything and everything we know about. Testing out some products and sharing that information with consumers. We have some recipe's and tips on outdoor cooking, smoking, grilling, roasting and more. We'll even share information gleaned from many years as a State Certified instructor on First Aid, CPR, AED's, Back Country Rescue, Orienteering, Cold Weather Survival tips, Outdoor equipment, including weapons from manufacturer's and custom builders alike. Ammunition talks, and techniques for better shooting.
I have some friends on board with my little project here, that come from all aspects of the experiences I've had... and I've learned as much from them as they ever learned from me. Hopefully we'll be able to share this with you, our followers.
    Thanks for stopping by...

Tom
