REVIEW: Aspen Ridge Single point Tactical Sling

     We received the product during the spring turkey season, and decided to try it out on the turkey hunt. One of the viable points of these products is their ability to provide support while shooting. As such I found the Aspen Ridge to be as good as any of the other in kind products I've had the opportunity to use. Having said that, I'll point out that the price point on this product makes it a very viable choice for those seeking a sling which allows connection to a weapon with an attachment point. Having taken the time to produce myself a couple different types of mounting points for a variety of my weapons, I also highly recommend hunters and outdoorsmen taking a crack at the use of this product. The sling allows for a comfortable way to carry your firearms in a forward set up, and offers rapid deployment in hunting situations, Guides and hunters taking trips to hunt in my favorite place, Alaska; this set up is indispensable in carrying your rifles ready to react in bear country where the danger remains high year round. Aspen Ridge Sports Vertical Tactical Foregrip

 We recently received a tactical forend grip from Aspen Ridge Sports. The grip came appropriately packaged for retail sale. The product test mules were a Smith & Wesson M&P 1522, and a Remington 700P R4. The rails on both rifles readily accepted the grip, and using the enclosed wrench, were simple to tighten. Ergonomically the grip itself is comfortable and allows for quick and repetitive hand placement. The adjustments were easily accomplished by the press of a button, and folding the grip away when not in use was done in the same manner.

The unit appears, and proved to be, quite durable, and the weight does not hinder the balance of the test weapons. Through several hundred rounds of firing the unit has not loosened under recoil, and can handle at least as much leverage as the test rifles can... all in all we believe this to be an excellent product with a rating of 5 stars.

SKB Lightning a forgotten Masterpiece

      Had the opportunity several times over the years to pick up used SKB's in different variations. Last weekend I was heading out to do some hunting and while going through the gun room, I came to a next to one of my all time favorites... The SKB Lightning. I have maintained a quiet love affair with this particular shotgun for many years. The first bird I ever covered with it appeared as if by magic. I don't recall trying to find the sight or getting the gun seated, it just happened. Many years later, this shotgun has been through several evolutions, including trap gun, skeet gun, sport-clays gun, bird gun, rabbit gun, pin gun and training weapon. Through all of this, the SKB has been flawless. Knock on wood, I have never had a jam in this weapon. Light weight for a semi-auto, fast to point, and a silky smooth action, this gun will always be part of my inventory. In its most recent service, the old girl has been cera-coated in camo and on loan to Wyatt for a starter shotgun... more memories to be made.... I recently found a small company in Canada, that bought out all the surplus parts for the SKB and Ithaca semi-auto's. Made myself a list of parts that wear often, and put in an order, just to make sure the old girl has many years still ahead of her...

Custom Rifle job

The last rifle built ... promised my cousin one for years, so I figured it should be a good one. Here it is; Adirondack Thunder...  based on a Remington 700 RH Long Action. Hart Barrel, chambered in .30-06. Custom made stock with inlay and beautiful finish, bead blasted aluminium base plate and trigger guard, custom tuned Jewell Trigger assembly, custom aluminium bolt shroud, trued receiver and bolt...

.300 SAUM Reloading

       More loading today. Working with more 168 grain .300 SAUM. Loaded up some Custom Competition bullets that seat a little deeper with the ogive. Also going to try out some Lapua Senecar's at three velocities. (2680, 2910, and 3225 approx.) Looking for a good combo with those. Both tests for these last two sessions have been using Vitavhouri powder, lg magnum primers from Federal, and new cases in this last batch. First batch cases are 4XF. All test loading is done with L.E. Wilson dies, and an arbor press. Extensive testing in my HV Benchrest rifle with powders has left me with the opinion that Vitavhouri powder is the most consistent powder on the market and is generally what I use in testing. The same applies to Federal primers.

Spending some time load testing with my .300 S.A.U.M. ... I am putting a couple new bullet combo's to the test with mixed results. I've found the Nosler J's in 168 grain are setting into nice groups at around 2825 fps, and conversely, the Sierra Match Kings in 168's are holding tight down at 2680, which didn't surprise me as they are pretty close to .308 ballistics.
